From the President

Jim Pfendler

Last Wednesday Erik Cronk, Eric Lyle, J.T. Davis, Karl Weixlmann, Chris Niebauer, Dan Pastore, Dan Hill, Bob Hetz and I attended the PA Steelheaders Association monthly meeting to listen to guest speaker Tom Ford.  Tom is the Director of Policy, Planning and Operations for the PFBC.  Tom described the current state of the Lake Erie Access program and some of the land acquisition projects that are being considered.  Tom informed the group that the first year’s funds of $600,000 may quite possibly be allocated, with the current properties under consideration.

After listening to Tom’s presentation, NWPATU members as well as other people present, expressed concern that land acquisitions appear to be the Commissions greatest priority and that little effort is being placed on developing a viable easement

and/or tax credit program for landowners who would be willing to permit public access.  Erik Cronk gave a copy of the New York State easement program to Tom to review.

It is our hope that Tom will take our message back to Dr. Austen and begin the process of developing an easement / tax incentive program for securing stream access.

At February’s meeting, I hope to start a Land Access committee that can become well versed in easement and tax incentive issues.

To that end, Chapter members Chris Niebauer and Karl Weixlmann will be attending the Keystone Coldwater Conference Feb. 24th, where two sessions will be devoted to stream access through easements and tax incentives.

NWPATU’s web site gets refreshed !!!

Thanks to Kevin Fritts’ initiative our web site is taking on a refreshing look.  Kevin, with Eric Lyle’s help and web page expertise, has begun updating the site, so take a few minutes to browse around it - www.fisherie.com/nwpatu ….There’s allot of great information and pictures of recent outings, minutes from the past meeting, upcoming events and so on.

Kevin asked that I include his request for feed back, ideas and pictures.

The pictures are not limited to just TU events.   I am also interested in members who have taking fishing trips to unique or interesting places and can provide pics with brief descriptions.  I am looking to put a bit more personality into the web site.  They can email the pics to the my email address: fourfritts@adelphia.net.”

Allegheny River Float Trip

No details have been worked out yet, but we’re working on them.  Watch for more info in upcoming newsletters and on our web site.
